Haven't you heard about those Brookswood kids?? Almost worse than the WGSS ones... Not too keen about the transfer. All jokes aside, good luck with your new job. You will be missed by everyone.

https://www.thestar.com/opinion/commentary/2015/03/07/canada-needs-more-crime-prevention-not-vengeance.html I thought this article from May of 2015 was very interesting. It talks about the Harper government and how they were planning on sending the worst criminals to jail, with no possible release and no chance of parole. This does correspond with Section 12 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms; a section that protects one's freedoms from extensive punishments (such as prison sentences, torture and execution).
In this article, it also states that if we put our tax dollars to crime prevention, rather than vengeance and locking up people forever, there would be a "50 per cent reduction in violence over the next five to 10 years" in Canada. The topic of the article and how it coincides with the charter sparked my interest because I think it's kind of ironic how one of Canada's former leaders can over look something as big as the charter. I can understand why Harper might have thought that way, but it something very interesting to think about and think about how it might have effected people's lives if it was adopted. |
